This week I attended my first farm conference of 2023. Experts, researchers and farmers shared and discussed research results, experiences, trends and ideas from Canadian and international sources.
At first look the concepts shared were traditional. At second look, the possibilities started to register.
For example, a combine innovation in Australia was discussed. This combine differentiates between grain and weed seeds and then crushes the weed seeds before returning them to the field. Reducing or eliminating the need for a post-harvest herbicide.
This kind of innovation could be applied to heritage, hybrid or GMO.
My point is that with an open mind and willingness to attend, listen and share with other farmers, you never know what you may learn that can be of value.
Please take the time and opportunity to meet and learn this winter. Hope to see you there!
