Attention students in grade 3-6! Students will have the opportunity to tour local Manitoba farms and engage with Manitoba farmer to learn more about where food comes from and what agriculture is all about. Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba (AITC-M) is excited to announce it will be hosting a virtual farm tour program - Follow the Farmers.
“This new program will help bring farming and agriculture to classrooms across the province in a time when getting out to a farm is just not possible,” says Sue Clayton, AITC-M’s Executive Director. “Since students can’t go to the farm, we’re bringing the farms to them, giving them the opportunity to learn, ask questions and increase their overall ag literacy.”
Each tour will be pre-recorded, by Penner Farm Services, to help avoid technical difficulties when inside barns and in rural areas. It includes curriculum-based grade 4 and 5 classroom activities or resource for teachers to use, along with a lesson plan.
The first year of students will tour the following farms across Manitoba:
- October 26 – Weather to Farm at Herbsigwil Farms
- November 17 – Follow the Dairy Farmer at Signer Dairy
- February TBA – Follow the Hog Farmers at Blue Ribbon Siwne and Prairie View Pork
- May TBA – Follow the Sheep Farmers at Dusty Rodge Ranch
