Cow Appreciation Day is observed annually on the second Tuesday of July and aims to promote awareness about the significant contributions of cows to our society. Cows not only provide essential products like milk, cheese, and beef, but they also play a crucial role in agriculture as draft animals and manure (plant nutrient) producers. As one of the largest dairy-producing countries in the world, Canada has a lot to celebrate when it comes to cows.
It is also a time to show appreciation for these gentle creatures and raise awareness about sustainable practices related to cattle farming and their welfare. - In Quebec, the first record of cattle importation dates to 1663 when 100 cows arrived from France aboard the Saint-Nicolas.
