After record yields in 2020, Quebec Maple Syrup Producers are supporting the industry’s sugar shacks in 2021. Up to 70% of in-person family enterprises that offer meals and entertainment traditional to the sugaring-off season are expected to close their doors and their business as a result of the pandemic.
With doors shut to in-person get-togethers in sugar shacks for a second season, the industry is offering a way for Quebecers to enjoy the experience at home through maple product and meal deliveries. They can be accessed at the newly launched industry website called Ma Cabane a la Maison (macabanealamaison.com).
“We are hoping for another exceptional year in 2021, with special wishes directed at our sugar shack restaurants. The pandemic hammered this sector of the industry just as peak season arrived last March. They—our ambassadors to the public at large—were forced to close their doors and the situation remains the same today. One survival strategy now in place is macabanealamaison.com, from which consumers may order sugar shack meals and products. We hope this cooperative project will find success in helping them through the crisis.”
