Stay up to date with Avian Influenza

As of March 27^th, 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), subtype H5N1, in a poultry flock located in southern Ontario.

HPAI subtype H5N1 has been detected in wild birds across Canada in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and British Columbia.

Whether you raise small flocks or game birds for personal or limited commercial purposes, it is important to be aware of the risk of AI to your birds. Learn more on ways to avoid this viral disease here.

The Poultry Industry Council, a registered charity that delivers poultry extension services, event coordination, and project and program management, are encouraging small flock owners and stakeholders to attend its free webinars of Small Flock High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Updates.

These updates will take place via Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month of April and continue Tuesdays in May. All times are in Eastern time.
