CBC Marketplace gives the nod for better nutrition to small farm organic egg producers in their show scheduled to air Friday April 2nd. In their investigation they compare nutritional value of ‘big farm’ and ‘small farm’ organic eggs and found that this was in fact the case.
They concluded a couple of reasons for this positive nutritional outcome from small farms which included two factors – organic feed plus cage free access to outside when weather permits. But that still does not explain the difference – as these are requirements for all organic egg production.
Small organic egg farmer Beth Simpson explains further, the reason she feels her hens produce eggs with more vitamin D, E and protein includes good organic feed, but her smaller operation also gives her the ability to lead her flock out and vary routine for foraging in her orchard and other grassy areas and that makes for happy hens.
