After an initial vote a few months prior resulting in the removal of a seed organization from the agreement, Seeds Canada will officially become its own entity. Four of Canada’s leading seed advocacy organizations are amalgamating into the industry overseer Seeds Canada. The new organization will come into effect on February 1st, 2021 after a transition to new formats through January.
The new agency is comprised of:
• Canadian Plant Technology Agency (CPTA)
• Commercial Seed Analysis Association of Canada (CSAAC)
• Canadian Seed Institute (CSI)
• Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA)
Seeds Canada will begin through a transition period where 15 board members will be established along with a transition committee to reduce business loss during the transitional period. The goals of the organization are to centralize an advocacy network for Canada’s seed industry at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. Going forward, growers across Canada will be able to join the organization and bring their voice to like minded individuals to support their needs within the industry.
