Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) program has honoured two national winners at its 2024 event in Lethbridge, Alberta. Gemstone Cattle Company from Alberta and Polyculture Plante 1987 Inc. from Quebec stood out for their innovative farming practices and dedication to excellence.
The Doerksen brothers of Gemstone Cattle Company adopted regenerative practices like rotational grazing and poly-cropping to improve soil health and produce nutrient-rich beef. Their direct marketing initiative, “Gemstone Grass Fed Beef,” has expanded their reach and earned them national acclaim.
Polyculture Plante 1987 Inc., managed by Simon Plante and Alison Blouin, has modernized berry farming with advanced techniques and sustainable practices. Alison’s focus on workforce welfare highlights their commitment to community well-being.
OYF recognizes farmers aged 18-39 who exemplify excellence in agriculture and promote rural-urban connections. The 2024 event celebrated winners selected from seven regional finalists, showcasing diverse achievements in farming innovation.
