Komie Hossini, a respected leader in Canadian agriculture, was honored with the 2024 W.R. Motherwell Award during Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) National Event in Lethbridge, Alberta, on November 29, 2024.
Komie has been instrumental in strengthening the OYF program for over a decade. Since 2012 he has contributed to strategic planning, board meetings, and the program’s social media development. Since 2015, Komie has guided media partnerships and resolved program-related issues.
His passion extends to organizations like 4-H and the Youth Ag Summit, further enriching Canadian agriculture.
The W.R. Motherwell Award honors individuals who demonstrate excellence in leadership and dedication to the OYF program and agriculture. Named after Dr. W.R. Motherwell, a pioneer in Canadian agriculture, the award highlights his contributions, including serving as Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and founding agricultural facilities at the University of Saskatchewan.
Komie’s commitment to agriculture is matched by his love for outdoor adventures, including soccer, trail running, and mountain climbing. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Diana, and their family.
Presented by Amy Cronin, Canada’s OYF President, and Sylvain Gascon, a fellow alumnus, the award underscores OYF’s mission to recognize and celebrate farming excellence across Canada. The program continues to inspire and honor young farmers, marking its 44th year in 2024.
