On March 8th, we recognize women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements for International Women’s Day. The theme for this year is “Women Inspiring Women”.
In the agriculture industry, women throughout Canada are innovating and pushing boundaries on farms and in food businesses.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in developing nations, if women worldwide had the same access as men to information, land, improved technologies, financing and markets, they could increase their agricultural yields by up to 30% and lift more than 100 million people out of hunger.
Today, more than ever, women are taking leadership roles on farms, in science labs, and in industry and government organizations. In science, women continue to make new discoveries with their skills and perspectives to create a sustainable future for Canada’s agriculture sector.
This year, the Influential Women in Canadian Agriculture program will highlight six women from across various disciplines in agriculture to share their stories, achievements, challenges, and wisdom.
Originally created in 2020, the program aims to recognize the crucial and evolving role of women in agriculture, from farming to research, to community outreach, technology and more.
Nominees must be women working in Canadian agriculture. They can be in academia, research, farming/producing, business development, events, or anything else related to the overall health of the agriculture industry. For example, nominees can have a focus on manure, soil, air quality, livestock, or any other aspect of agriculture.
If you would like to nominate a hard working woman in agriculture, fill and submit the nomination form here. The deadline to submit is March 25th. Self-nominations are allowed.
