In honour of National Water a Flower Day yesterday, we advise all plant parents to love and care for their flowers.
Water A Flower Day brings special attention to flowers and the many properties they benefit us with, such as their medicinal, therapeutic and aesthetic properties.
From the early times of Dioscorides (the “Father of Pharmacology”) to modern-day botanists and scientists, herbal/flower medicine have come a long way and continuous research studies have relieved many illnesses that did not previously have a cure.
Did you know?
- 11% of 252 drugs labeled as essential come from plants
- Herbal medicines have been used for the human body’s overall well-being for over 2,200 years now
- An estimated 30% of all plant species are used for their medicinal properties
In addition to being used for its medicinal qualities and viewed as aesthetic props, caring for flowers and/or plants in general, can have a positive therapeutic effect on people. Patients who take care of flowers and/or plants have shown reduced depression and anxiety and better mental health.
So, it says it right in the name of the day – water a flower, or two… or a dozen. Generally, you should water your flowers in the mornings, anytime between 6AM to 10AM. This is because the weather is cooler, reducing the evaporation from the soil.
