Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau and Manitoba Agriculture Minister Derek Johnson are pleased to announce that 42 projects will receive a total of $704,000 in targeted financial assistance, through the Agriculture Crown Lands Forage Productivity Pilot Program.
The Agriculture Crown Lands Forage Productivity Pilot Program enables Manitoba farmers to increase forage productivity through beneficial management practices that support comprehensive forage management.
Eligible Manitoba farmers that applied for funding are Agriculture Crown Land forage lease holders in good standing with the agricultural Crown lands program. Recipients were required to complete an environmental farm plan.
42 projects have been approved for the one-year pilot project to receive up to $30,000 with a cost share ratio of 75 per cent government and 25 per cent applicant.
Eligible projects include the following:
- The development of grazing management plans
- The targeted placement of key infrastructure components such has cross-fencing, wells, or dugouts
- The rejuvenation of forage lands through measures such as seeding and brush management
“The funds committed through this project will enable Manitoba agricultural Crown lands forage lease holders to increase productivity and sustainability by adopting beneficial practices that support comprehensive forage management,” says Johnson.
“Pilot programs such as this help make much-needed improvements that have long-term benefits for producers and industry.”
This is a part of a 5-year Canadian Agricultural Partnership which contains a $3-billion commitment by Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial government to support Canada’s agri-food an agri-products sectors.
