We don't normally post business acquisition news on Small Farm Canada, but because its about forage, we decided to post this one.
Millborn Seeds has recently expanded its footprint in North America by acquiring Union Forage, based in Calgary, Alberta. This strategic acquisition marks a milestone in Millborn's ongoing effort to create a vertically integrated seed supply chain, reflecting their deep commitment to enriching lands and lives across the continent.
Union Forage, known for its innovative approach to forage seed production, aligns perfectly with Millborn's vision. Since its establishment in 2014, Union Forage has specialized in perennial and annual forages, serving a wide network of top-tier dealers and directly impacting farming practices in Canada.
“The idea for Union Forage was born from my need to extend the grazing season for our family-owned yearling and cow-calf operation north of Calgary. Since then, we’ve led the way in Canada by using different forage blends to achieve this for all cattlemen, as well as improving soil health, lowering grazing costs, and decreasing fertilizer inputs. We are looking forward to continuing to support producers throughout Canada with the Millborn team,” says Graeme Finn, Union Forage founder, president and Senior Forage Specialist.
The partnership between Millborn Seeds and Union Forage is poised to offer an array of benefits to farmers, ranchers, and landowners. With more than 1,200 species of seed solutions now under one roof, this collaboration aims to simplify access to high-quality seeds, enhancing productivity and sustainability on North American farms.
Key to this acquisition is the integration of Union Forage's dealer-focused seed business with Millborn's extensive seed supply network. This synergy will enable the combined entity to offer a broader portfolio of seed solutions, including Union Forage's innovative forage blends and Millborn's Renovo Seed brand products.
“Millborn’s goal is to create an integrated seed supply chain and provide the highest quality products for our customers. Union Forage’s established dealer network and product offering is top-tier and allows us to reach even more producers in Canada,” says Matt Fenske, CEO of Millborn.
Leaders from both companies have expressed excitement about this partnership's potential to make a greater impact on the agricultural landscape. By joining forces, they look forward to supporting producers with an enhanced range of seed products that cater to the evolving needs of the farming and ranching community.
As of March 6, 2024, Union Forage will operate as a Millborn location, continuing its mission under the new partnership.
