Canada’s Agricultural and Labour Ministers have started meetings to address pandemic caused issues in the country and how to move forward as the year comes to an end. The latest conversation addresses the incentives given to small business owners and creating pathways to grow the economy through small business.
Due to the ever-present need for fresh produce and other foods, the ministers are reviewing Business Risk Management programs to better support farms post-COVID and avoid the same early production and purchasing issues faced in March and April. The changes are expected to increase the protections for losses outside of farmers’ control and reduce their reliance on the economy and purchasing power of the public.
The talks are continuing through November with a wide variety of labour and farm topics being discussed. Important for small farmers are getting new technology to agri-business, lowering barriers to entry and pushing for a fair market for small businesses.
