Tegan and Leland Wong-Daugherty, a Knowlesville couple, is owners of Appleseed Homes.
Appleseed Homes build prefabricated farmhouses with the idea of making small-scale agriculture affordable and profitable.
“These homes are meant to be useful to people in rural areas who are aiming to produce their own food,” says Tegan Wong-Daugherty.
The couple has been living in rural western New Brunswick for 25 years. They began their business venture in the rural community about 100 kilometres northwest of Fredericton.
“We are noticing more and more people wanting to engage in producing and preserving their own food. So why not build a home that helps them do that,” adds Wong-Daugherty.
Appleseed homes have root-cellars, wood heat, hand-pumps for water access and seed starting and storage areas. Some models measure up to 336 square feet and have attached greenhouses.
Teagan and Leland’s goal is to create more employment opportunities in the Knowlesville area.
A model home will be ready for public viewing by the fall of 2022.
