Kielstra Holsteins is a dairy farm located in central Saskatchewan. With 2,100 acres, the Kielstra family farms roughly 300 Holsteins.
Jan Kielstra started a YouTube channel in 2015 but did not release his first narrated video until late 2019.
He has released numerous high-quality educational vlogs since – walking and talking viewers through the process of feeding cows, with complete visual enhancements using a drone, go-pro, and even cinematography.
Known as the SaskDutch Kid, Kielstra has an audience of 155,000+ subscribers, with his top video at 1.4 million views.
In 2018, the Kielstra family opened a brand new free-stall barn with 256 stalls and a bedded-pack barn. The new calf barn included a double 12 milking parlor which allows 24 cows to be milked at a time.
Kielstra’s videos are a visual representation of how advanced dairy farming has become today.
“We as farmers have an incredible opportunity with social media to now be able to directly educate the consumer on how their food is made,” Jan states. “That’s the main reason I started with social media. If we don’t show how we do things on a farm, someone will.”
