As the initiator of one of the first community-centred farmland use designations in Canada, Brandy Gallagher of O.U.R. Ecovillage intimately knows the processes, challenges and benefits of shaping a shared operation.
Starting in 1999, Gallagher and a team of over a dozen people began trail blazing a path towards creating a model demonstration sustainable village on 25 acres near Shawnigan Lake.
The village practices “permaculture design methods” to attempt to work towards greater food security locally and inter-dependently within the wider community.
