Farm Management Canada is excited to introduce a new research report about the business management needs of indigenous agricultural producers - “The Path Forward: Supporting the Business Management Needs of Indigenous Producers.”
The study explores the need across agricultural production, including aquaculture, Indigenous traditional and cultural harvesting, on-farm processing and other related agriculture and agri-food activities.
There is a desire from indigenous producers for more business management resources such as information, training and tools to address barriers and gaps and create effective methods for engagement and delivery.
The report identified 5 high level recommended areas of support with specific action recommendations under each.
- Build Lasting Relationships with Indigenous Communities
- Increase Awareness of and Access to Indigenous Agricultural Opportunities and Support Programs
- Enhance Indigenous Educational Opportunities
- Expand Indigenous Support Services
- Enhance Indigenous Research and Analysis
Farm Management Canada contracted the Canadian Agricultural Human Resources Council, with the guidance of their Indigenous Advisory Council. Bayer, Farm Credit Canada and the Canadian Canola Growers Association helped finance the project to meet cost-share requirements.
