This International Women’s Day, the spotlight shines brightly on the influential roles farm women hold in agriculture, focusing on their contributions to wellness, safety, and leadership. The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) stands at the forefront of this celebration, acknowledging the indispensable work of women on family farms across Canada.
Recent research led by Farm Management Canada, with contributions from CASA, unveils the distinctive experiences of farm women. The study, "Expanding Opportunities for Canadian Agriculture by Understanding the Experience of Farm Women," underscores the necessity of supporting women in agriculture to foster growth in the sector.
A staggering 46% of farm women are at the helm of farm safety plans, with a quarter stating their pivotal role in the existence of safety measures on their farms.
Andrea Lear, CASA’s CEO, emphasizes the critical yet often overlooked contributions of women to farm safety and overall success. "Women are the backbone of family farms, especially in safety management. It's time their efforts are recognized and celebrated," Lear comments, affirming CASA's commitment to year-round acknowledgment of women's achievements in agriculture.
To honor these contributions, an online forum titled “Celebrating Women in Agriculture: Wellness, Safety and Leadership” is scheduled for March 8 at 12 pm Central Time. The event promises enriching discussions from a panel of speakers on farm women's experiences. For more details and registration, visit here.
CASA, a national non-profit dedicated to the health and safety of the agricultural community, is supported by the Government of Canada through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership. This initiative marks a collaborative effort to elevate the roles and recognition of women in the agricultural sector, fostering a more inclusive and supportive industry for all.
