Riverview Ranch Meat Co., nestled in Melancthon, Dufferin County, Ontario stands as a testament to sustainable farming practices.
Recently, this dedication was recognized, with the farm's owner, Mike Swidersky, receiving the 2023 Ontario Sheep Pasture Award.
Sponsored by the trio of MAPLESEED, the Ontario Forage Council, and the Ontario Sheep Farmers, this award acknowledges excellence in pasture management.
The Swidersky family’s journey into sustainable farming began when Mike and his wife, Amber, both University of Guelph alumni, started Riverview Ranch back in 2003.
Over the years, they've nurtured the land, focusing on the health of their ever-growing flock of sheep. Amber's expertise in animal nutrition complements Mike’s approach, ensuring the flock gets the best care.
Their children, Warren and Grace, haven't been mere spectators in this journey. Both have shown keen interest in carrying the legacy forward.
Over a decade ago, they took their first steps into the world of sheep farming by investing in a ewe. Today, they both manage their personal flocks under the larger umbrella of Riverview Ranch.
Sustainability remains the cornerstone of the Swidersky farming philosophy. The health of the pasture, soil, and animals are at the heart of every decision.
Mike believes in sharing their success formula, ensuring the entire industry benefits from their knowledge.
For those inspired to follow in Mike’s footsteps, applications for the 2024 MAPLESEED Sheep Pasture Award are open. The opportunity awaits aspiring sustainable farmers to showcase their passion and skill.
