Kingston recently hosted one of the National Farmers Union (NFU) films about farming.
In the fall of 2023, NFU launched an inspiring journey into the essence of Canadian agriculture with its "Depth of Field: Films About Farming" series. This collection of 40 short documentaries shines a spotlight on the featured farms across Canada, offering a deep dive into the diverse world of farming.
With several films already released and more on the way, viewers can explore farming practices from Prince Edward Island to British Columbia.
Topics range from rotational grazing and seed saving to the economic and social aspects of agriculture. The films are available online, with new releases each week, ensuring a comprehensive portrayal of Canadian farming life.
In addition to online accessibility, the NFU has facilitated 26 community screenings nationwide, with 13 more anticipated. Two upcoming films will cover Seedy Saturdays.
These events, held in various venues including movie theaters and libraries, offer a unique opportunity for viewers to meet and interact with the farmers featured in the documentaries.
These gatherings not only highlight the complexities of farming but also foster discussions around sustainable and equitable food systems.
"Depth of Field: Films About Farming" is not just a film series; it's a movement towards recognizing and addressing the challenges and opportunities within Canadian agriculture.
Supported by various organizations and funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between consumers and the farmers who feed them.
For those looking to immerse themselves in the realities of farming and contribute to meaningful dialogue, finding an upcoming screening is a click away.
