The Canadian Federation of Agriculture has announced the launch of the Engaging and Advancing Women in Agriculture (EAWA) project.
This project has been created by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture in collaboration with Karolyn Godfrey, owner of Winding Path Inc., Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture, and Chicken Farmers of Canada.
There is a clear gender divide in the agriculture sector with women making up only 28.7% of farm operators in Canada. The goal of EAWA is to address this divide and “level the field”.
“Women in agriculture are strong. And just because they can overcome gender barriers, doesn’t mean they should have to. I am dedicated to doing everything I can, to level the field”. - Karolyn Godrey, Owner of Winding Path Inc.
EAWA will develop and pilot a strategic plan that implements policies and programs to address the systemic issues facing women in farming. Key issues that will be addressed include supporting the skill development and leadership opportunities for women in Canadian agriculture.
This project will first be launched in PEI with the aspiration for it to spread across Canada.
