This year marks a special milestone for Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan's (AITC-SK) Food Farm program.
Celebrating its 10th year, this initiative aims to provide students with firsthand knowledge and experience in farming. By stepping out of the traditional classroom, students have the unique opportunity to see and be part of the complete farming cycle.
The journey begins in spring. Students don their farming hats, plant crops, and move through interactive learning stations, each offering insights into a specific area of agriculture.
This immersive experience doesn't end with the planting. In the following weeks, students return to witness and participate in the harvest, further enhancing their understanding of the food production process.
What sets Food Farm apart is its collaborative spirit. Local farms and agri-businesses join hands to host these events. Volunteers from varied agricultural backgrounds come forward to guide and teach, making each station a hands-on learning hub.
The inaugural Food Farm started in Yorkton in 2013. Now, a decade later, this educational journey has expanded to 10 locations spread across the province.
In honor of this 10-year landmark, AITC-SK proudly unveiled a Food Farm video, chronicling the program's success and its impact.
And the celebration isn't just confined to the students and teachers. Media outlets are warmly invited to share in this experience, capturing the essence of Food Farm's immersive learning.
AITC-SK's vision resonates through initiatives like Food Farm. It's more than just about understanding farming; it's about inspiring the next crop of agricultural leaders.
Last year alone, over 250,000 student experiences were crafted, reaching students across hundreds of Saskatchewan schools. As AITC-SK marks this decade-long journey, let's step into the fields, feel the soil beneath our feet, and cherish the bond between kids and agriculture.
