The last full week of June is celebrated annually as National Pollinator Week all over the world.
Pollinators are insects and small animals such as birds, butterflies, and bees that pollinate plants and make our gardens and the world greener.
They positively affect all our lives, supporting wildlife, healthy watershed and more – so why not save and celebrate them!
The Canadian Garden Council also proclaimed 2022 as Canada’s Year of the Garden. If you’re looking for reasons why to garden, visit here.
Pollinator Week was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership. 14 years ago, the U.S. Senate’s unanimously approved and designated a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” as a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations.
During National Pollinator Week, gardeners, nature lovers and conscious citizens come together to spread the word on how to protect pollinators.
There are many ways to celebrate and get involved such as
- Planting for pollinators
- Hosting garden tours and going on a nature walk
- Building native bee houses
- Discussing with a pollinator expert
- Learning more about pollinators by participating in online and/or in person bee and butterfly ID workshops
