Many small farm employers depend on Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funding each year to support their workforce.
The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2025 program is now open for employer applications. Employers have until December 19, 2024, to submit applications, marking an earlier deadline than in previous years.
The initiative helps organizations create summer jobs for youth, providing funding to support positions.
CSJ funding is available to non-profits, public sector organizations, and small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees. Positions will begin on April 21, 2025.
This year’s program focuses on addressing labour gaps and supporting underrepresented youth. Priority groups include Indigenous youth, those with disabilities, Black and racialized communities, and 2SLGBTQI+ youth. The program also supports jobs in housing construction, sustainability – such as agriculture, and climate change adaptation – which could also apply to agriculture.
CSJ 2025 aims to create 70,000 jobs for youth, contributing to the Government of Canada’s larger plan of 90,000 youth job placements by 2026 under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy.
Employers can apply for funding through the secure Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) portal. A GCOS account allows organizations to access various funding opportunities.
“With many youth struggling to break into the job market, the Canada Summer Jobs program couldn’t be more important. Not only does the program allow young people to earn money over the summer, it also offers youth entering the labour market their first taste of paid work, or a chance to gain real work experience in their chosen field of study, paving the way to a successful career.” said The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth.
In past years, CSJ exceeded job creation goals, and 92% of participants reported skill development and increased confidence. Job postings for CSJ-funded roles will be available on the Job Bank from April 2025.
Be sure to get your application submitted in time to meet this earlier deadline.
