Senator Rob Black’s bill to establish Food Day in Canada passed in the House of Commons on May 8, 2023. With royal assent via the Governor General’s signature, the Saturday before the first Monday in August will now be recognized as Food Day in Canada.
Establishing Food Day in Canada also pays tribute to the late Anita Stewart, a culinary author, food activist and the first Canadian Food Laureate.
To celebrate the first inaugural Food Day Canada on August 5th, PlayOJO is offering one lucky participant $500 to test out different poutine dishes from Smoke’s Poutinerie, Harveys and A&W as well as two independents of their choosing.
Food Day Canada aims to engage and inspire Canadians to shop, cook and dine Canadian - it’s a chance for all people to celebrate food across the country. PlayOJO wants to know whether big chain restaurants or independent businesses produce the best tasting poutine.
