What has taken Canada so long to develop major promotional efforts to promote maple syrup on the world stage. Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) recently shared a major funding initiative, committing up to $3.6 million to promote Canadian maple syrup on the international stage.
This initiative, part of the AgriMarketing Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, aims to elevate the "Maple from Canada" brand across major markets including the UK, Germany, Japan, and Australia.
Québec Maple Syrup Producers (QMSP), representing over 13,300 maple producers, welcomed this announcement with enthusiasm. Luc Goulet, the president of QMSP, praised the funding as a strategic move that will not only increase the global presence of Canadian maple syrup but also highlight its environmental benefits and adaptability to current food trends.
"AAFC's generous funding will substantially boost the Maple from Canada brand in key export markets like the UK, Germany, Japan, and Australia. Educating consumers about the benefits and versatility of maple is an ongoing effort, both at home and abroad. We'll be able to further differentiate maple syrup from other sweeteners by responding to shoppers' environmental concerns as well as the latest food trends."
The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, remarked on the superiority of Canadian maple syrup and expressed optimism that this funding would significantly boost demand and exportation.
"Canadian maple syrup is the best in the world," said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. "With this funding, we're spreading the word about the quality, versatility, and sustainability of Canadian maple syrup to drive demand, increase our exports, and create more opportunities for the hardworking maple producers."
David Marino, QMSP’s Director of Promotion and Market Development, also acknowledged the federal government’s support as crucial for the ongoing success and recognition of Canadian maple syrup, which is exported to over 70 countries worldwide.
The funding aims to differentiate Canadian maple syrup from other sweeteners, addressing consumer concerns about the environment and keeping up with the latest food trends. By enhancing the global footprint of Canadian maple syrup, this initiative not only supports local producers but also contributes to the broader agricultural economy, maintaining Canada's leading position in the maple syrup industry worldwide.
