University of Guelph’s History Roundtable ends the Fall 2022 Speaker Series with Mary Murphy on November 16th - "The 18-Hour Huckleberry Mousse: Creative Cooking in Rural North America.”
The Rural History Roundtable is a speaker series that has been in operation since 2002.
It hosts scholars and provides a venue for graduate students to present their latest research.
Unfortunately, the last three speakers of the Winter 2020 Roundtable were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Murphy will share her exciting new research of examining community cookbooks for culinary creativity.
“Every now and then, a recipe stands out from its sisters and hints at a level of culinary experimentation and innovation,” says Mary Murphy.
“It has made me ponder the individuality of the women who contributed recipes, broadened my thinking of rural women’s culinary culture and of the ways in which culinary creativity may have augmented women’s status.”
