The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) in British Columia is teaming up with the Regional Districts of Peace River and Bulkley Nechako to test out a three-year agricultural plastics recycling pilot program. Cleanfarms, a non-profit environmental stewardship organization, launched the project to collect agricultural plastics including twine, bale wrap, and silage film.
A collection station will be constructed at the McBride Regional Transfer Station in the Fraser-Fort George region. Over the course of the three-year trial, the RDFFG will contribute a total of $79,521, however, the Regional District is under no obligation to continue financing the initiative once the three-year pilot period has ended.
A report stated that the regional district will be responsible for 50% of the costs associated with the pilot program delivery in their region. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) will provide the remaining 50% through its Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program (CASPP). Cleanfarms would be in charge of the program's implementation and the educational component.
More information, including the projected start date for the project, will be released in up-coming months.
