Not-for-profit associations will have the opportunity to access a piece of $8 million in federal funding over the next three years for communications initiatives.
Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Marie-Claude Bibeau launched the AgriCommunication Initiative, which will connect farmers to Canadians to better understand how their food is produced.
$8 million will fund projects that promote consumer awareness and support progress towards achieving Canadian’s access to safe, nutritious, and culturally diverse food. This will enhance Canadians’ trust in sustainability, animal care and efforts to reduce food waste.
“Consumers have a growing interest in learning more about where homegrown agricultural products come from and how they’re made,” explains The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
“This initiative will develop more connections between the agriculture and agri-food industry and Canadians, which will increase appreciation and pride in our farmers and food businesses.”
As part of a vision established in the Food Policy for Canada, the AgriCommmunication Initiative has two streams which:
- Aims to help Canadians better understand how their food is produced.
- Focuses on increasing the sector’s understanding of consumer preferences and expectations.
The Canadian Agricultural Youth Council plays a large role in development for this funding project, along with public opinion research, focus groups and consultations, and industry and provincial organizations.
Eligible recipients include national non-for-profits associations such as fairs and exhibitions and Indigenous groups.
Applications for the program will be accepted on an ongoing basis until September 30th, 2023. The program ends March 31st, 2024.
