Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has received a generous $650,000 donation from the estate of Evelyn Oberg. This significant contribution will directly support students enrolled in horticulture and sustainable agriculture programs within the Faculty of Science.
The funds will be invested in an endowment fund, generating 15 annual awards of $2,000 each for students facing financial challenges. This investment in future generations of agricultural leaders is deeply appreciated by KPU.
"We are incredibly grateful to Evelyn Oberg for her incredible generosity," says Randall Heidt, CEO of the KPU Foundation. "This gift will provide long-term support for students pursuing these critical fields, ensuring a brighter future for sustainable agriculture practices."
Oberg, a longtime Langley resident with a passion for nature and a strong connection to KPU's horticulture school, has left a lasting legacy that will empower students for years to come.
Students enrolled in horticulture or sustainable agriculture programs, including certificates, apprenticeships, diplomas, and degrees, will be eligible to apply for these bursaries.
"These annual awards are a game-changer," says Dr. Brett Favaro, Dean of the Faculty of Science. "By removing financial barriers, we can nurture a new generation of agricultural leaders who will contribute significantly to food security and sustainability efforts in British Columbia and beyond."
