Are you an agriculture champion? Are you looking for ways to engage with your community about agriculture? If you answered yes, then you could be a great volunteer with 4-H Canada.
4-H Canada is a non-profit organization that is focused on strong volunteer leadership for world-class positive youth development experiences in Canada. Their rich partnerships allow the organization to develop and administer a wide range of innovative programs.
The programs are organized with four leadership development pillars in mind. Community engagement and communication, sustainable agriculture and food security, environment and healthy living, and science and technology.
With almost 25,000 youth members and almost 2000 clubs across Canada, 4-H strives to engage more youth and provide accessible and relevant leadership opportunities to youth in diverse communities.
There are a multitude of engagement opportunities offered to members.
- My Plate and the Planet is an opportunity to learn about the food we eat and the world around us with hands-on activities.
- Dig into Soil is an initiative to provide hands on experiences for youth to discover how healthy soils contribute to addressing climate change.
- Proud to Bee a 4-H’er introduces members to the vital role pollinator bees play in creating a healthy ecosystem and a sustainable food supply.
These are just a few examples of the wide range of events and activities offered.
4-H is comprised of almost 9000 volunteers and places heavy emphasis on the importance of these volunteer leaders. 4-H works with their partners to ensure excellence in program delivery, develop high-calibre learning resources accessible to leaders, and retain excellent leaders.
Outstanding volunteer leaders are constantly recognized by the organization and the National Volunteer Leader of the Year Award is distributed on an annual basis. The winning national volunteer leader is then selected to be registered for an annual Leadership Summit.
