The Canadian Garden Council (CFC), endorsed by its nine founding Partners, proclaims 2022 as Canada’s Year of the Garden. The Year of the Garden 2022 celebrates the centennial of Canada’s ornamental horticulture sector and to honour the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association’s 100-year anniversary.
From January 1st to December 31st, Canadians across the country will commemorate Canada’s rich garden heritage, celebrate today’s vibrant garden culture, and create legacies for a sustainable future.
Despite COVID, Canada’s passion for gardening has never been more evident. According to a recent NANOs poll, four in five Canadians expect to spend the same or more time gardening in 2021, than they did in 2020.
The Year of the Garden 2022 will be an opportunity for new and seasoned garden and gardening enthusiasts, families, schools and tourists to participate in garden activity or a festival to stimulate and increase their gardening passion.
“Gardening is a shared passion from coast to coast to coast,” says Alexander Reford, President of the Canadian Garden Council and Director of Reford Gardens.
“Our world needs more gardeners, and Canadians are leading the charge to plant to make a better planet. The Year of the Garden 2022 is an inclusive national celebration of what we are and where we are going – a nation of gardeners.”
Going forward, the Saturday before Father’s Day (June 19th, 2022) is to be Canada’s National Garden Day as a legacy of the Year of the Garden 2022.
