For Pride Month, Small Farm Canada is featuring a Canadian organization every week that celebrates community through food and agriculture.
Our last feature is an Instagram account that celebrates Pride in agriculture. @prideinag_ was founded by Julie Romagnoli in 2020, after she didn’t experience examples of LGBTQ+ folks who were “out” in the agriculture industry.
Romagnoli uses the @prideinag_ Instagram account to showcase stories of people that are across the LGBTQ+ community and are across different areas of agriculture.
People are welcomed to direct message the Instagram account to share their story with anonymity honoured.
“We celebrate differences in agriculture every day. Specialization of agriculture is always growing. So, we can have that diversity in the industry – we also need to recognize the diversity in people,” says Romagnoli.
“Now that it’s pride month, we see a lot of rainbows, which is great. I’m so happy to see others make that stance and say, ‘this is a safe space.’”
