For Pride Month, Small Farm Canada is featuring a Canadian organization every week that celebrates community through food and agriculture.
Fierte Agricolé is a nonprofit organization that works to unite LGBTQ+ people in agriculture.
The organization is concerned with demystifying all LGBTQ+ realities in rural areas.
Fierte Agricolé offers focus groups as a safe space for individuals to discuss their experiences as LGBTQ+ farmers.
They work with stakeholders and other professionals to raise awareness on sexuality, gender identity diversity, challenges, and realities that LGBTQ+ people in agriculture may face.
Fierte Agricolé aims to:
- Meet LGBTQ+ organizations in rural areas and organize joint activities to meet new people and socialize with members
- Organize outings and events where participants from all rural regions of Quebec can meet and bond with each other
- Facilitate discussion groups that promote exchanges and testimonies and that provide the support needed to break the isolation and loneliness of LGBTQ+ people living in the regions
- Promote the use of local Quebec food products during LGBTQ+ community events in order to encourage farming families
- Develop and disseminate awareness-raising material on sexual and gender diversity to break down prejudices and taboos and to fight against homophobia and transphobia.
Next week, Small Farm Canada will highlight Sweet Digz Farm located in Richmond, British Columbia. Stay tuned!
