As the snow melts, warmer temperatures are upon us and the rebirth of all things lawn and garden. National Lawn and Garden Month is celebrated each year during the month of April.
Whether you already enjoy gardening, recently discovered the pleasure of spending time in a garden because of the pandemic or want to learn more about how gardens impact so much of life, this is a great time to appreciate your lawn and garden, as well as the green spaces around your home and neighborhood.
Many people use this month to focus on their own garden or lawn, while others use it as an opportunity to make their community green spaces better.
For Lawn and Garden month, there are lots of great ways to celebrate. You can keep it small, or you can go big. Here are some ideas:

- Plant flowers - Flowers can be a colourful addition to any outdoor space and invites birds and bees to enjoy your outdoor space.

- Hang a bird feeder – You can make a bird feeder quite easily and it will bring unique birds into your yard.
- Begin a new landscaping project - Consider making a great addition to your existing space by adding fountains, patios, ponds, pergolas, and other outdoor features to make your space more usable and exciting.
- Beautify your neighborhood - Go on a walk every morning or evening and take a trash bag with you to pick up any trash you see may along the way. Be sure to wear gloves or a use a shovel for your safety. If everyone did this, all public outdoor spaces would be even more beautiful.
- Trim your trees - Look for areas where trees may be obstructing street signs or possibly cause damage to your house or garage.
- Spring clean your lawn – Start picking up things you do not want to run over such as sticks, rocks, trash, and other debris that somehow made its way into your yard over the winter.
- Gift a plant – Whether it is an indoor or outdoor plant, gift a plant this month for someone’s birthday, anniversary or just because you are thinking of them.
- Garden party - Invite friends or family over for a BBQ out on a deck or sit on the grass and have an old-fashioned picnic.
