Rain barrels are great for rainwater harvest in a microscale but when it comes to a farm or market garden, intermediate bulk containers up the ante and potential to save. Using rain barrels connected to a roof gutter downspout is the most common form of rainwater harvesting in the urban environment.
Choose a Suitable Location: Place your IBC tote as close as possible to where rainwater will be collected, like a downspout off the house or barn, and, if possible, at a high point on your property. As close to the source as possible will limit the amount of plumbing and setup you need. Placing the tote at a high point will also improve water flow by the wonder of gravity.
You have options to purchasing new as many makers and distributors will recondition totes for re-use.
