Homemade soft molasses cookies are super chewy and perfectly spiced. Back then, Bowie used a wood stove to bake her cookies. Bowie is what Julie Harlow called her Aunt Flora. Harlow shares her family recipe to ice-box molasses cookies:
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
2/3 cup molasses
1/3 to 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
Steps:
Blend first 3 ingredients
Add dry ingredients
Mix well
Shape in a roll and chill
Slice thin
Bake 7 to 8 minutes in quick oven of 375°
