<p>In the 1940s and 1950s a farm father might look at his son lazing about and tell him “go drag the pasture.” Dragging wasn&#8217;t an essential farm task but rather something done on a quiet afternoon. Dragging did much the same job as a chain harrow: it broke up and spread clumps of manure, it knocked seeds off seed heads—in general, dragging groomed a pasture.<br />
The following diagrams are taken from an undated US Department of Agriculture bulletin. Six old tires are bolted together to form a triangle. More tires could be added to cover a wider area.</p>
